Lets talk bitcoin storage. We didn’t really cover the Ellipal Metal Mnemonic with gas but we did set it on fire and here’s what happened.
We took an Ellipal Metal Mnemonic, combined it with a blowtorch, and well check it out.
Ellipal claims that their metal is Unbreakable. Challenge accepted. First up is the fireproof claim.
So we grabbed an orange bucket from the local big box hardware store, some safety goggles, and some vice grips.
Two minutes later, we had this. Uh oh. Not looking to be too fireproof at the moment but let us keep going because bitcoinislove.com is about love and this metal needed some tough love. Notice that big blotch of melted metal on the bottom of the bucket. Eww.
Ellipal Tap Out
Five minutes later we started to feel bad and our bucket was destroyed from the melting aluminum so we decided it was time to end it. As you can see the Ellipal burned straight through. All of the tiles fell out save for a few and the front face of the metal came completely off and melted like a can of beer.
While we remain fans of Ellipal products like the Titan and the original Ellipal cold wallet, the metal mnemonic doesn’t live up to how it is marketed. When you are storing your keys you need to be confident that the products you use are going to protect your sovereign generational wealth for years. The Ellipal metal doesn’t pass the test. If you want metal, we suggest looking at COBO.
